Assistant director is the assistant to the lead director in a project. He is responsible for directing and managing certain designated sectors of the project or the organization. He is the in charge in absence of the director. He helps the lead director in the success of the project.

The assistant director scrutinizes the activities of the sectors and creates reports and progress assessments to the director for evaluation. He assesses the daily progress of the film and makes reports on it.
